Stay Hungry.

There’s a certain level of drive when your stomach is growling, and you’re ready to eat whatever comes your way. It doesn’t matter how unhealthy it is or how bad it will taste—it’s getting eaten.

The drive to find the next meal becomes all-consuming. It steers your body to make decisions that achieve the goal of fueling both mind and body. It has total control.

Once the body receives the fuel, the mind becomes clear. Thoughts become more rational and sympathetic. You’re back to yourself because you’ve had your “Snickers.”

The beginning of hunting season is no different. Whether you’re providing for yourself or your family, the freezer might be looking bleak, and the pang of not having fresh wild game lingers in the back of your mind.

For those of us who live in areas with a variety of over-the-counter tags and a desire to fill the freezer, this…

Practice How You Hunt

There are tons of videos going around about doing cold shots or elevating your heart rate then taking a few shots... even holding at full draw for a minute then taking a shot. One thing that I managed to overlook that nearly cost me a deer is shooting at last light. It's crazy how different your sight picture is in low light conditions, especially when you're running a smaller scope housing or lenses. My tidbit of advice for the 2024 season is to practice those low light shots because we all know that's the most likely time when you'll have an opportunity to make a shot that counts 👊

I like to practice the hold then shoot. The way I do it is to find a TABATA timer app for your phone, or any timer that can time multiple a duration. With a Tabata, I draw and hold for the 20 secs, then release and reload/redraw in the 10 seconds. The hold becomes cumbersome. You lose your shot process because you're either at the aim portion or just before the aim portion. When it comes to the release you either have to restart the process or kick off where you left off. This year I may even incorporate longer holds to let my ADHD brain wander further only for the timer to go off, and set me back into reality. Much like hearing a crunch crunch, drawing, then having the animal held up behind the bush for 30 seconds, take one step out and present an opportunity that lasts a fleeting second. Maybe something to pair with the last light training? 🤔

Sight Window Covered by Riser / Cables

Here’s my dilemma.

My Nock is set, my center shot is within 1/16th and at full draw the cables obscure 1/4 of the sight ring as well as the riser. So what could be the issue?

It dawned on me my peep isn’t in and set yet (I might be forcing the string), could be torquing the bow (I checked it and anchored, no hand torque it’s still there) -or- my cams need to be shimmed (moved) which would offset the cables being in the way and bump my string off the riser.

Mr. Boone, what would you say the issue(s) are? In years past I’ve never had an issue with a sight window being obscured until a Mathew’s VXR & now this Bowtech Solution SS.

This is the best photo I could get, you can see the sight window slightly obscured but cables aren’t. At full draw that…

Welcome to the world of a Mathews. I have yet to have a full sight ring picture through my peep on my VXR or my V3. I can see about as much as yours. Centre it the best you can and send it!

"The Most Remarkable Bow We've Ever Tested"

What a statement! And I truly think PSE is deserving of it. Anyone who hasn't actually shot one at distance really should! Here are the links to the title statement...

Welcome to The Hunter's Kitchen

Welcome to The Hunter's Kitchen: A forum dedicated to sharing and exploring wild game recipes. From venison stews to duck confit, this is the place for outdoor enthusiasts and culinary adventurers to swap tips, tricks, and delectable dishes using the bounty of the wilderness. Join us in celebrating the thrill of the hunt and the joy of savoring unique, flavorful creations straight from field to table.

Okay, AI generated text aside... We all know recipes on the internet are out of control! For one, so many of them aren't worth making. For two, we don't always feel like reading in-between the lines of a novel to extract the recipe. These two points alone are enough for me.

Since meat is the primary resource we gain from hunting, sharing it with others is what it's all about for many of us. Whether it's at our dinner table with friends and famil…

2023 Hunting Season - A Bust or Just Me?

The 2023 hunting season turned out to be quite the challenge. I experienced a combination of adverse weather conditions and an alarmingly low animal count, resulting in poor hunting prospects for me this year. It was a bit disheartening to witness the lack of animal activity, I didn't even lay eyes on a dead deer on the side of the road throughout the entire hunting season. We did see good activity on route to our elk camp... quite a number of Moose and Whitetails but not nearly as many as usual. Most people I've chatted with had a similar experience, although most of us did manage to put some meat in the freezer... it just wasn't the same out there as previous years. It did, however, give me a nice push to continue to refine my mobile hunting setup so I can get deeper in with relative ease. I'm a…

Easton Archery 2024 Releases

I'm super excited for these releases. The old HIT system left me wanting... but not anymore! The new collars, outsert systems and HIT systems are looking spot on. As for the pre-fletched arrows, I'm neither for or against (as I like to change my vanes for each scenario - both for myself and for my customers) but I am certainly looking forward to the new components that come with their offerings. It should help keep the prices down a bit and prevent me from having to stock so many part numbers! Without further ado, here are the new products (they'll hit the store soon, if they haven't already) ...

These are available without fletchings as well. Stock is on order but feel free to pre-purchase to ensure you get some before they sell out.

For the hardcore target guys... here you go. Easton X10's will be pre-order only but shoul…
